Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), also known as glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), is an important enzyme in amino acid metabolism. It catalyzes the reversible transfer of an amino group from aspartate to α-ketoglutarate, producing glutamate and oxaloacetate.
