Despite its advantages, PLA production faces several challenges. One of the main issues is the relatively high cost of raw materials and the complexity of the synthesis process. Additionally, the mechanical properties of PLA, such as brittleness and low heat resistance, limit its applications. Researchers are actively working on developing new catalysts and copolymers to enhance PLA's properties and make its production more cost-effective.
