Manganese Superoxide Dismutase (Mn SOD) is an essential enzyme found in the mitochondria of all aerobic organisms. It plays a critical role in protecting cells from oxidative damage by catalyzing the dismutation of the superoxide radical (O2•−) into oxygen and hydrogen peroxide, which are less harmful to the cell.
