Despite its biological importance, sialylation catalysis faces several challenges. The synthesis of sialylated compounds is often complicated due to the structural complexity of sialic acids and their derivatives. Enzyme availability, stability, and cost are additional hurdles. Moreover, achieving high-yield and site-specific sialylation requires an in-depth understanding of enzyme kinetics and substrate specificity.
