How is Precipitation Used to Prepare Catalysts?

Precipitation is a common method for preparing heterogeneous catalysts. A precursor solution containing the active metal or metal oxide is mixed with a precipitating agent. As the solution's conditions (such as pH, temperature, or concentration) change, the active material precipitates out. The solid particles are then collected, washed, dried, and often calcined to form the final catalyst.
