The process begins with the injection of an alkaline reagent slurry, typically lime or sodium bicarbonate, into the flue gas stream. The reagent reacts with the acid gases to form solid salts, such as calcium sulfate (CaSO4) or sodium sulfate (Na2SO4). The resulting dry particulate matter is then captured by a downstream particulate control device, such as a baghouse or electrostatic precipitator.
