Electrons are transferred through the chain via a series of redox reactions. Starting from NADH and FADHâ, electrons move through complexes I and II, respectively, and are then shuttled by coenzyme Q to complex III. From there, they are transferred to cytochrome c and finally to complex IV, where oxygen is reduced to form water.
