Catalase is present in nearly all living organisms that are exposed to oxygen. It is predominantly found in the peroxisomes of eukaryotic cells, but also occurs in mitochondria and chloroplasts. In humans, it is found in high concentrations in the liver, kidney, and red blood cells.
