What is the Mechanism of RNA Polymerase Catalysis?
The catalytic mechanism of RNA Polymerase involves several steps:
Initiation: The enzyme binds to the promoter region of the DNA with the help of transcription factors, forming the transcription initiation complex. Elongation: RNA Polymerase unwinds the DNA and adds RNA nucleotides complementary to the DNA template strand, forming the RNA chain. Termination: Transcription terminates when RNA Polymerase reaches a terminator sequence, releasing the newly synthesized RNA and detaching from the DNA.
