What are the types of ions transported by P-type ATPases?
P-type ATPases are known to transport a variety of ions, including sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), and protons (H+). Each type of P-type ATPase is specialized for a specific ion or group of ions. For example, the Na+/K+-ATPase pumps sodium out of the cell and potassium into the cell, while the Ca2+-ATPase pumps calcium out of the cytoplasm into the extracellular space or intracellular compartments.
