What are the Main Types of Thermochemical Conversion Processes?
There are three main types of thermochemical conversion processes:
Gasification: This process converts organic materials into syngas (synthesis gas), a mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and sometimes carbon dioxide. Gasification typically occurs at temperatures above 700°C in the presence of a controlled amount of oxygen or steam. Pyrolysis: This involves the thermal decomposition of materials at temperatures between 300°C and 700°C in the absence of oxygen. The products include bio-oil, syngas, and char. Combustion: This is the complete oxidation of organic materials to produce heat, carbon dioxide, and water. Catalysts in combustion can help in achieving more complete oxidation and reducing emissions.
