What Are the Challenges in Catalysis for Refineries?
Despite their advantages, catalysts in refineries face several challenges:
Deactivation: Catalysts can lose activity over time due to coking (carbon deposition), poisoning by impurities, or sintering (agglomeration of active sites). Regeneration: Deactivated catalysts often require regeneration, which can be costly and time-consuming. Selectivity: Achieving high selectivity for desired products while minimizing by-products remains a critical challenge.
