Despite the benefits, several challenges persist in the catalytic processes for hydrogen economy. These include the high cost and scarcity of precious metal catalysts like platinum, durability issues, and the need for higher activity and selectivity. Research is ongoing to develop alternative catalysts, such as non-precious metal catalysts and innovative materials like metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).
