Despite its advantages, catalytic process engineering faces several challenges. These include catalyst deactivation due to poisoning, sintering, or coking, which reduces the catalyst's lifetime. Developing catalysts that can withstand harsh operating conditions and regenerating spent catalysts are ongoing areas of research.
