mRNA is synthesized from a DNA template in a process called transcription. During transcription, the enzyme RNA polymerase reads the DNA sequence and synthesizes a complementary mRNA strand. This mRNA strand then undergoes processing, which includes the addition of a 5' cap and a poly-A tail, as well as splicing to remove introns.
