How Does ESI Compare to Other Ionization Techniques?
ESI is often compared to other ionization methods such as Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (MALDI) and Chemical Ionization (CI). While MALDI is useful for high-mass biomolecules and polymers, it often requires a matrix that may interfere with the analysis of certain catalytic intermediates. CI, on the other hand, is more suited for small and volatile molecules but can be too harsh for large biomolecules.
