There are several types of peer review, each with its own advantages and disadvantages:
Single-Blind: The reviewers know the identity of the authors, but the authors do not know the identity of the reviewers. Double-Blind: Both the reviewers and the authors are anonymous to each other. Open Review: Both the reviewers and the authors know each other’s identity, and sometimes the reviews are published alongside the article. Post-Publication Review: The manuscript is published, and the scientific community reviews and discusses it openly.
