The BET theory is based on several critical assumptions:
Adsorption occurs in layers. The gas molecules in the first layer are adsorbed with the same energy as the heat of liquefaction of the gas. The subsequent layers have the same adsorption energy as the heat of condensation of the gas. There is no interaction between the adsorbed molecules in different layers.
