What are the Different Types of Hydrogenation Catalysts?
Hydrogenation catalysts can be broadly categorized into two types:
Homogeneous Catalysts: These catalysts are in the same phase as the reactants, usually in a liquid solution. Examples include Wilkinson's catalyst (RhCl(PPh3)3) and various organometallic complexes. Heterogeneous Catalysts: These catalysts are in a different phase than the reactants, typically solid catalysts in contact with gaseous or liquid reactants. Examples include Raney nickel, platinum on carbon (Pt/C), and palladium on carbon (Pd/C).
