Dnazymes, or DNA enzymes, are single-stranded DNA molecules with the ability to catalyze specific biochemical reactions. Unlike proteins, which are traditionally known for their enzymatic capabilities, dnazymes represent a fascinating intersection of genetics and catalysis. They are engineered through a process known as in vitro selection or SELEX (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by EXponential enrichment).
