One of the primary functions of a TTO is to protect IP through the filing of patents. When a new catalytic material or process is developed, the TTO evaluates its novelty, utility, and potential for patent protection. If deemed valuable, the office will file a patent application to secure exclusive rights to the invention, preventing unauthorized use and enabling commercialization through licensing.
