How Does the Catalyst Affect the Product Distribution?
The choice of catalyst and the reaction conditions (such as temperature and pressure) significantly affect the product distribution in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. Iron catalysts tend to produce a higher fraction of olefins and oxygenates, while cobalt catalysts are more selective towards paraffins. The chain length of the produced hydrocarbons can also be controlled by adjusting the catalyst and reaction conditions.
