How Does Enhanced Adsorption Affect Catalytic Activity?
Enhanced adsorption can significantly improve catalytic activity by increasing the concentration of reactants at the active sites. This leads to a higher reaction rate and, often, better selectivity. For instance, in heterogeneous catalysis, where the catalyst is in a different phase than the reactants, enhanced adsorption can facilitate the interaction between the reactants and the catalyst surface, thereby speeding up the reaction.
