Catalysts are crucial in improving air quality by enabling cleaner combustion processes and reducing emissions of harmful pollutants. For instance, automotive catalytic converters help decrease emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides from vehicle exhausts. However, the incomplete conversion of pollutants and the release of secondary pollutants during catalytic reactions can still pose risks to air quality. Therefore, ongoing research focuses on enhancing the efficiency and selectivity of catalytic processes to minimize unintended emissions.
