Organic solvents are often used to dissolve reactants and facilitate catalytic reactions. However, many of these solvents are volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can contribute to air pollution and pose health risks. They can also be flammable and difficult to dispose of safely. The use of green solvents, such as water or supercritical CO2, is being explored to mitigate these issues.
