Alcohols, particularly methanol, are used in fuel cells as a source of hydrogen. In Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFCs), methanol is oxidized to produce electricity, heat, and water. This process is facilitated by a platinum-based catalyst. DMFCs are attractive due to their high energy density and ease of fuel storage and transport.
