At high substrate concentrations, enzymes reach a state of saturation where all active sites are occupied. Under these conditions, the reaction rate approaches its maximum velocity (Vmax), and the system is said to be operating under zero-order kinetics. In this state, the reaction rate is independent of substrate concentration.
