What Are the Challenges Associated with High Current Density?
While high current densities can improve reaction rates, they also pose several challenges:
Heat generation: Excessive heat can degrade the catalyst and the electrode material. Overpotential: Higher currents can lead to increased energy losses. Mass transport limitations: At high current densities, the supply of reactants to the electrode surface can become a limiting factor. Degradation of catalyst: Prolonged operation at high current densities can cause physical and chemical degradation of the catalyst.
